Next spring we will put our weekly newsletter on line here. For now, you'll have to content yourself with a random newsletter from last year...

I was on the phone the other day with our co-op production manager and asked if they wanted any sorrel, since the requests from you all for more have been less than overwhelming. To my surprise she said yes. “I thought Mr. R.---- (another co-op member) was supplying it for you” I said. “Mr. R.---- has issues”, she replied. “Baby,” I said, “We all got issues.” (I didn’t actually call the production manager “baby”, but it makes for a better story.) Our main issues right now, other than our issues with our families and with authority, are the strange wilting and subsequent death of our cucumbers and the dreaded squash vine borer, merciless and destructive. These have combined to severely limit production of these two items, which is why there are so few of them this week. We did, however, have an excellent week for lettuce, beans are flowering and some even have little beans, peppers are almost in and we picked our first okra this week. Carrots are sweet and almost ready—you can expect to see them next week.

In your Boxes:
Lettuce 1 head
Cucumbers 2
Salad Onions 1 bunch
Scallions 1 bunch
Summer Squash 6
Oregano 1 bunch
Sugar Snap Peas pt
Baby Arugula5 oz

Kind of heavy on the salad stuff this week, but that’s how it worked out. Sugar Snap peas are finished after today. Hope you liked them. Oregano is best known as the key ingredient in pizza sauce. If you do not wish to make pizza this week, string it up and dry it for later.

In other news Dana and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary last Friday—by thinning carrots. It was truly the most romantic anniversary we’ve had since the first one, when we crossed the K-mart parking lot on foot and enjoyed a fine meal at the Summerdale Diner. All true, by the way, except for the part about the meal being fine. Anyway, if you are looking for a special way to spend your big day, take heart—the next carrots are almost ready to thin. Have a nice Independence Day!
